2009 Oscar Nominations
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button leads all nominees with 13 nominations. Slumdog Millionaire is next with an impressive 10 nominations.
The Reader is a surprise best picture nominee, earning a nomination over the more popular Dark Knight. Clint Eastwood was a curious omission from the best actor nominees and Kate Winslet (The Reader) was able to edge out Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road) for a best actress nomination.

I think the academy rating will be higher than last year. TDK got 8 noms, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was loved by a lot. I don’t think anybody is going to miss the supp. actor race.
i guess this years oscar is not that fun again…
the last 5 years (excluding 08) the oscars were really like, “OMG! who is gonna win!? i was expecting him!” kinda reaction. this year, the winners are pretty predictable
i had lots of reactions from the oscars night but this year i will only have 3
1.) i guess she/he won as everyone said.
2.) CCBB won i guess, big deal screw oscars for no SM…
3.)WTF???? no one saw that comin!
all 3 are like “WHO THE HELL CARES!!!” type of reactions. who feels like this in the oscars this year?
i mean, there is not much competitions this year.

Its called CHANGELING i dont know why people keep on calling it THE changeling. The Changeling is a horror movie from 1980.
But yeah its a very good movie that would deserve recognition but this year with slumdog and CCBB theres just to much competition in best picture and director…
And Angelina for best actress, well she got a nomination i thought she deserved, but it seems she is not going to get it…
I saw the changeling and i liked so much!
I think Kate is amazing in The Reader, although Eternal Sunshine is still probably her best performance ever, but this one is pretty close. I actually liked it more than RR. Meryl was okay, but I just think Kate was significantly better, so when if it comes down to who is more “due” I think Winslet is equally if more so, and happens to give a better performance. So the Oscar is hers. Hathaway was certainly decent, but not quite as good as her costar Dewitt.
Kate was terrific in RR but not in THE READER. so maybe Meryl Streeps but i think the academy doesn’t care which movie kate starred in so probably they will hand it in to Kate which is kinda disapointing
Yeah i would bet on those predictions hands down.
MERYL STREEP or KATE WINSLET i dont know either its too close to call.
Personally i didnt really enjoy neither of their performances as much as i enjoyed Melissa Leo in Frozen River but hey not really a chance when your up against streep and winslet.
BP: SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE
BD:Danny Boyle for SM
BA:Sean Pean for MILK
BAS:Kate Winslet or Meryl streeps (idk if i spelled that right)
BSA: HEATH LEDGER
BSAS:CRUZ
Best adapted Screenplay: SLUMDOG MILLIOINAIRE
best orginal: MILK
Bustray,
I think your predictions are pretty good.
However i have to disagree on the supportings:
Even though what you say about Ledger playing a comic character is true, he will still get the usual votes he would have got even if he was still here, plus the sympathy votes, so i think he will still get best supporting actor
And best supporting actress, Viola Davis was great in her only scene. But have you seen Cruz? I would rather bet on her.
Apart from that, I think you are right on all the other ones.
Oh and also, if the reader was to be replaced, (exluding the dark knight), the spot should have gone to GRAN TORINO before visitor or wrestler in my opinion (however i have not seen man on wire but come on, its a documentary).
Cheers ++
The Reader was disapointing. and there were over 3 films that were better that could’ve got the place.
although no TDK for BP, in 20 or 10 yrs time we all got to admit it’s a classic or it is a classic masterpiece.

Huh. Surprised the Reader is there. Saw it today and didn’t think it was that great. The Wrestler, Man On Wire, or The Visitor should’ve gotten its slot in my opinion. Here are my predictions:
BP: Slumdog Millionaire
Best Director: Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire
Best Actor: Sean Penn, Milk
Best Actress: Kate Winslet, The Reader
Best Supp. Actor: I was thinking Heath Ledger, but then I asked myself: is the academy really going to give such a major award to a comic character? so I’m going out on a limb and saying Josh Brolin, Milk.
Best Supp. Actress: Viola Davis, Doubt
Best Original Screenplay: Dustin Lance Black, Milk
Best Adapted Screenplay: Simon Beaufoy, Slumdog Millionaire
Best Foreign Language Film: Waltz With Bashir
Best Animated Film: WALL-E (not even the snub at the Annies can take away WALL-E’s best animated pic).

Yes i agree, you havent got a clue what you’re talkin about its fuckin DC comics not marvel
The Dark Knight is DC, asshole.
i kinda knew this would happen but THE READER was ridiculous… actually, the directing one was the worst. THE READER was the worst… at least NOLAN should have been nominated!
and LOIUSE, i thnk u r trying to say that the academy is biased
oh grow up the dark knight was not BP material hello its a marvel film they dont get nominated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BOYCOTT. DONT WATCH. DESTROY ACADEMY.
BOYCOTT.
BOYCOTT.
The Academy does tend to make odd options. ‘The Reader’ does not have a chance of winning best picture this year. Sorry. ‘Slumdog’ looks to aim at Best Picture. The Dark Knight looks like it deserved a nomination, but people won’t appreciate it as much as everyone on this site do.
There might be poor ratings this year, like last year. ‘No Country for Old Men’ wasn’t much of a Best Picture Film. A small film like Slumdog won’t get much praise.
I was shocked also on the song nominations. I would have thought ‘The Wrestler’ song would have been nominated.
My biggest surprise was The Dark Knight snub ofcourse, but omg i cant believe woody wasnt nominated for best original screenplay for vicky cristina barcelona…WTF…
yeah julius i knew tdk wont be BP because super heroe movies dont get nominated for that catergory but i am kinder surprised with all the button noms…im kind of also surprised bout australia it didnt get cineamatography or visual effects or art direction which was a long run to get but its nominated for costume o well good ol catherine martin done it once again
yea, i knew that maybe TDK for not BP… nobody knew THE READER coming…. movies these days are nothing like THE GODFATHER… then TDK came up and was a great film and i don’t care about the reader anymore. TDK is still the best film of the year no matter what the academy says. oh, and if they want to get money or get more interest into the academy, they should make some honourable metions and top 10 academy movies of the year or something to put TDK in it so people will at least appreciate it
if you guys think i just like TDK, no. i just love crime films. and TDK was a great one. and plus the academy will be a disaster…
and the good news is that at least TDK got 8 noms… that is still very hard to achieve, the movie just missed BP and BD (BD was very… OMG, the reader…) and maybe adapted screenplay. and it will still be regonised as an academy movie…
the OTHER BAD NEWS
this was a god’s chance for the academy to become popular again, or the last…. because when the next movie comes, the batman will be another “academy” by itself. that will be terrible… the academy had 2 roads and one was to give up the “biasness and traditional excuses” and become fair and popular and the other was “go back to the same old boring way..” then they STILL wanted to make themselves cool and old not great and popular and took the “go back to the same old boring way..” road and ignored the other best movies…
actually, if they nominated the TDK for the 2 things, they would have made some movie history and they would go up. and not nominating them would be going really down. however, they made TDK the 3rd most nominated and got some interests… the academy is normal. but the normal is STILL going down. so there won’t be other films that will ever be a public masterpiece like TDK so the academy wasted the chance… the academy is doomed. doomed academy… who will take it’s place?
Wow, THE READER? Didn’t expect that. I though THE WRESTLER would at least have a chance of making in to the cut than that film.
It looks like it has no chances winning though. Slumdog does.
all right guys… i understand the snub for TDK as ignored BP contender but WTF is the reader doing there?
lets stop the “i told u so that TDK won’t be nominated flor BP!!!” but holy crap THE READER got BD ALSO!!! that is seriously ridiculous! weren’t there any better movies better than that? i hope CCBB or THE READER doesn’t win the BP.
i mean… guys, THE READER took over BD contender for TDK. i am disappointed for the BD contender.
and louise…. TDK got cinematography.
i can understand TDK as no BP but THE READER???? why not something else?? i was so confused. i was still satisfied with my other fave got 10 noms. everyone thought TDK for BP and BD but went to THE READER… WTF?? BD for THE READER??? not happy-go-lucky or anyone else? what are the academy thinking? THE READER takes a BD nom… that is seriously ridiculous. and as for CCBB going 13 is kind of weird… i was execting like 10 for CCBB and 12 for like SM. i am happy that i got 4 of BD and BP correct and TDK for all the technical stuff.
but READER was ridiculous for taking over TDK, happy-go-lucky, THE WRESTLER and GRAN TORINO…. what the hell was that? BD goes to the reader..
if SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE doesn’t win BP… it’s the sign that the academy is retarded…
and i guess the academy is still too traditional and biased to genres still… but SLUMDOG got 10 noms and TDK and milk got 8 noms are happy to me…
and the academy completely ignored all the best movies of the year. THE READER just took everyone’s place there.
I’m now 100% rooting for Slumdog Millionaire. Milk too, but the rest can go f*** themselves. Especially The Reader.
I guess I was wrong. I don’t agree with the nominations, but I respect- oh who am I kidding? forget the oscars. I’m boycotting them.
Skyler wrote:
“There’s no way the Academy will EVER nominate a comic-book movie for BP.”
Holden wrote:
“Skyler, the Academy WILL nominate The Dark Knight…the Academy hasn’t got any other films good enough for a Best Picture nomination…The Reader [has] fallen out, due to lack of critic support. I’m sorry Skyler, but why don’t you shove it? What do you know, anyhow?”
Omar wrote:
“The Dark Knight, WILL be nominated for best picture. And this will be groundbreaking….a comic book movie nominated for best picture is a big deal and it will happen this year.”

You can return to your Jonas Brothers fan-sites, numbnuts.
Lol skyler totally agree with you man!!1 especially that holden guy…
To orange JULIUS, william HOLDEN, OMAR shariff, and all the other putz’s who were so adamant the The Dark Knight was going to get the Best Pic nom: “Come on, hit me! HIT ME!”
Revolutionary Road had 3 nom’s, not 4. You call this an Oscar site?!
