This looks to be one of those years where the early critics’ groups split their awards. First, the National Board of Review annointed “Slumdog Millionaire,” but then the LA Film Critics swooped in and threw everyone for a loop by picking “Wall-E.” We think the NYFCC will also go in a different direction. Past winners include “Sideways,” Topsy-Turvy,” and “Return of the King.” This could be shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable Oscar races in many, many years. Here are our projections:

Best Picture: The Dark Knight

Best Actor: Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon

Best Actress: Kristin Scott Thomas, I’ve Loved You So Long

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight

Best Supporting Actress: Rosemarie DeWitt, Rachel Getting Married

Best Director: Christopher Nolan, The Dark Knight
