Tomorrow morning, the Director’s Guild of America announces their five nominees for Best Director. Over the years, the winner of the prestigious Director’s Guild award has matched up pretty well with the Academy’s Best Picture winner. Martin Scorsese, Kathryn Bigelow, Danny Boyle, and Joel and Ethan Coen all won the Director’s Guild award. The DGA award is even more important now in light of the Academy’s expansion to ten Best Picture nominees. Now, the five nominated directors usually represent the five most serious contenders for Best Picture. This year, David Fincher (The Social Network) and Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) appear to be locks, but there is room for an upset in the remaining three nominations. Here are our predictions.

Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan
Joel and Ethan Coen, True Grit
David Fincher, The Social Network
Tom Hooper, The King’s Speech
Christopher Nolan, Inception
