The two surprise nominations were The Dark Knight and Revolutionary Road. In a bit of an upset, Milk was left out of the best ensemble nominations.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button picked up two more acting nominations for best actor (Brad Pitt) and best supporting actress (Taraji P. Henson). Kate Winslet was nominated for both best actress (Revolutionary Road) and best supporting actress (The Reader).
