Oscar Predictions: Analyzing the Key Races

Well, we are almost a week away and the anticipation is building. Oscar Frenzy will submit their final list of predictions in all categories next Thursday. But for now, let’s take an up close look at some of the most hotly contested categories.

Obviously, this is the one everyone is talking about. It’s looking like it will come down to The Hurt Locker vs. Avatar. At first glance, The Hurt Locker seems to have the edge. Hurt Locker Dominates BAFTAs

The Hurt Locker took home awards for best film, director, sound, editing, and cinematography at Sunday’s BAFTA awards. Carey Mulligan and Colin Firth took home the lead acting prizes. Avatar won in only two categories, special visual effects and production design.

BAFTA winners predictions

The BAFTA awards will be handed out on Sunday. This is the last big awards show that has a chance to influence the Oscars. In the past, the BAFTAS have played role in some of the tight acting races. Tilda Swinton won here for Michael Clayton before ultimately triumphing at the Oscars. The Pianist also did surprisingly well, and the film went on to win Best Director and Actor that year. Oscar Nominations 2010

Oscar Frenzy correctly predicted nine out of the ten best picture nominees for the Academy Awards. While we predicted Invictus, it was another sports film, The Blind Side, that took home the nomination.
