Milk and Benjamin Button Pick Up BFCA Nominations

The Broadcast Film Critics nominations are out and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Milk continue to garner awards nominations. Oscar Frenzy correctly predicted six of the eventual nominees. One curious omission is Revolutionary Road, which is looking like less and less of a contender this year.

Broadcast Film Critics Predictions

The BFCAs announce a top ten list every year, and usually you will find all five Best Picture nominees on there. They tend to like big films, even those that aren’t beloved by critics. Past selections include “Cinderella Man,” “American Gangster,” and “Memoirs of a Geisha.” They also provide nominees in all the major categories, with winners to be unveiled in January. For now, we are just going to predict their top ten list. Here we go.

LA Film Critics Awards Predictions

The LAFCA are important for one primary reason. They come second. What that means is that they can bestow momentum on a film or an actor/actress at the most critical time. Or they can take it away. “Slumdog Millionaire,” Clint Eastwood, and Anne Hathaway are riding high after their NBR wins, but which of the three can keep it going. LAFCA Best Picture winners have a good historical track record of being nominated for an Oscar. Past winners include “Brokeback Mountain,” “Sideways,” and “There Will Be Blood.” Here is our forecast this year.

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Wins at National Board of Review

Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner at today’s National Board of Review awards. In addition to winning best film, the picture took home the prize for breakthrough performance, actor (Dev Patel) and tied for best screenplay with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Oscar Frenzy correctly predicted Slumdog as well as Josh Brolin for Best Supporting Actor.

National Board of Review Predictions

Here we go. Awards season is upon us again, and in the evening of December 4, the National Board of Review will announce their Best Picture, top ten films, and acting awards. The NBR has traditionally been a good precursor for the Oscars. Their Best Picture winner usually is one of the top five nominated films, and last year, they picked “No Country For Old Men,” the eventual winner. Other past winners include “Moulin Rouge,” “Good Night and Good Luck,” “The Hours,” and “Mystic River.” They tend to shy away from big blockbuster films, but they like celebrity Hollywood actors…
